Used Industrial Chillers
Industrial chillers remove heat from processes and equipment by circulating chilled fluid through a closed loop. These systems maintain precise temperatures for manufacturing operations ranging from plastics molding to pharmaceutical production.
Federal Equipment Company stocks air-cooled and water-cooled chillers from 1 to 350+ tons. Inventory includes portable process chillers, package chillers, screw compressor units, and refrigerated recirculators from manufacturers including Neslab, Mokon, and Huber.

Industrial chillers operate on the vapor-compression refrigeration cycle. A compressor pressurizes refrigerant gas, which then passes through a condenser, where it releases heat and becomes liquid. This liquid refrigerant flows through an expansion valve and into an evaporator, where it absorbs heat from process fluid before returning to the compressor. The chilled process fluid—typically water or a glycol mixture—circulates to equipment that requires cooling.
Air-cooled chillers reject heat directly to ambient air through finned coils and fans. Water-cooled chillers transfer heat to a separate water loop that connects to a cooling tower. Package chillers integrate the compressor, evaporator, and controls into a single skid-mounted assembly. Refrigerated recirculators provide precision temperature control for laboratory and small-scale process applications, with some units capable of maintaining temperatures as low as -40°F.
Compressor types include scroll compressors for smaller units, screw compressors for medium to large industrial applications, and centrifugal compressors for high-capacity installations. Common refrigerants include R-134a, R-410a, R-407c, and R-22 in older equipment. Federal Equipment Company can arrange inspection, testing, and refurbishment services to verify chiller condition before shipment.

Why Buy Used Industrial Chillers
Used industrial chillers typically cost 40-60% less than comparable new equipment. This makes high-quality cooling systems accessible to facilities operating within capital equipment budgets or requiring backup capacity.
Lead times for new chillers can extend 16-24 weeks or longer. Used equipment ships within days of purchase, minimizing production downtime when replacing failed units or adding capacity.
Federal Equipment Company can arrange inspection and testing services before shipment. Refurbishment options include compressor rebuilds, refrigerant system evaluation, control system updates, and leak testing to verify system integrity.
