Used Holoflite Dryers
Holoflite-style screw dryers use hollow, cored screws rotating inside a jacketed trough. Heat transfer fluid circulates through both the screw flights and the trough jacket, heating the product from two surfaces simultaneously. This indirect, contact-based drying approach handles wet solids, pastes, sludges, and granular materials without exposing the product to a direct flame or hot gas stream.
Federal Equipment Company stocks a broad selection of used Holoflite-style dryers from the used dryers category, including twin screw and single screw configurations from manufacturers such as Metso, Bepex, Bethlehem, and Denver. Available units range from 7" to 48" screw diameter, with pressure ratings from 15 psi to 150 psi and temperature ratings up to 650°F, in both carbon-steel and stainless-steel construction.

Holoflite dryers transfer heat through conduction rather than convection. The cored screw rotor is hollow, allowing steam or hot oil to circulate through the flights. The outer trough jacket carries the same heating medium, so the product contacts heated metal on all sides as it advances through the unit. This dual-surface design delivers high thermal efficiency in a compact footprint and eliminates the need for large volumes of process air.
The screw itself is the defining component. Flights are precision-formed and hollow-cored, connected to a central shaft with rotary unions at each end to allow continuous fluid circulation while the rotor turns. The trough is typically fabricated with a semi-circular or U-shaped cross-section to match the screw profile, maximizing contact area. End plates seal the trough, and the drive end carries a gear reducer and motor matched to the required torque and throughput.
Twin screw configurations use two intermeshing screws that rotate toward each other. This design provides a self-wiping action that prevents material from accumulating on the screw surfaces, improving mixing and heat distribution. Single screw units are simpler mechanically and suited to applications where the product flows cleanly without buildup. Torus disc variants, such as the Bepex TDJS and TDUS series, replace the helical screw with a series of hollow discs mounted on a central shaft, which increases the heated surface area relative to the unit’s length. Porcupine processors use a similar jacketed trough design but incorporate pin-style agitators extending from the shaft rather than screw flights.
Federal Equipment Company has handled units from Metso, Bepex, Hosokawa, Bethlehem, Denver, Unico, and Komline Sanderson. Available configurations include twin screw and single screw holoflite processors, torus disc dryers, and Porcupine processors, in both 304/316 stainless steel and carbon steel. Units can be inspected prior to purchase, and refurbishment or testing services may be available for select units.

Why Buy Used
A new Holoflite-style dryer is a fabricated-to-order pressure vessel. Lead times of 40 to 60 weeks are common for new units, and capital cost runs from $80,000 to well over $500,000 depending on size, metallurgy, and pressure rating. Used units are immediately available for inspection, typically priced at 30% to 60% of new cost, and arrive with documented operating history including national board pressure vessel certifications already on file. Federal Equipment Company can arrange third-party inspection, and refurbishment or pressure testing may be available for select units on request.
